Inviting E-Learning: How Hard Can It Be?
Paxton, Patsy
Journal of Invitational Theory and Practice, v9 p23-40 2003
From an Invitational Education perspective, e-learning will only succeed as an educative environment if educators are able to provide an e-learning environment that preserves dignity and encourages communication. The converse: using an online environment to "throw information" at students has the opposite effect; it is experienced as deeply disinviting. This article identifies some of the more common disinviting practices currently being experienced by learners who are new to an e-learning environment. It also examines practical ways in which e-learning educators can make the online environment more invitational.
