Wicked Waste: Helping Numeracy in the Primary Classroom
Yoxon, Mark
Mathematics Teaching, n179 p32-34 Jun 2002
"Wicked Waste" is a powerful teaching resource and four tools in one: (1) It complements literacy and numeracy teaching for KS2/attainment levels D & E using 20 minute interactive teaching modules; (2) It manages time and, with its intelligent programming, complexity of questions; (3) It provides diagnostic information for the teacher; and (4) Its also an in-depth resource about waste and recycling. The "Wicked Waste" project set out to achieve two objectives. First, to investigate teacher and pupil classroom needs and to explore the design principles of how a product dealing with waste management and recycling could be developed to meet those needs. Secondly, to actually develop and produce a dynamic product as a learning tool for teachers to utilise in the primary classroom. (Contains 1 figure.)
