Curriculum-Based Reform: An Eye on the Future
Fletcher, Geoffrey H.
T.H.E. Journal, v34 n7 p26-35 Jul 2007
This article discusses the necessary steps that need to be taken in order to prepare students in the work force and help them succeed. In this article, the author talks about how to change educational practices to ensure that all the right things are being taught. Curriculum standards are the place to start, and while none of the business people the author spoke with proposes having separate courses in innovation, problem solving, and the like, all believe that these skills could be expressly taught through project-based learning, where students learn subject matter, then apply that learning directly to a real-world problem. He emphasizes that while the curriculum is reformed, there is also a need to reform the approach to accountability.
