Group Counseling for African American Males: When All You Have Are European American Counselors
Muller, Lynne E.
Journal for Specialists in Group Work, v27 n3 p299-313 Sep 2002
An increasing number of school counselors are European American and female at the same time that African American males have become one of the largest populations at risk for needing services. Studies consistently reveal that African American males encounter formidable challenges in the educational system. Professional school counselors have the responsibility to provide guidance and counseling services for all students, especially those at risk. This article presents information on the design, implementation, and assessment of a 12-week school counseling group for high school African American males led by European American female counselors.
