A Formula for Achieving Collaboration
Hickel, Dorian
Library Media Connection, v25 n3 p30-31 Nov-Dec 2006
The school library media center has an abundance of resources for teachers and students, but library media specialists are frequently isolated, sometimes invisible, members of the faculty. In addition, many teachers mistakenly think of library media specialists as "the copyright police" or "The Controllers of Content" instead of collaborators. It seems that classroom teachers do not really understand what they do because their skills encompass so many different areas. These negative perceptions often cause teachers to pass them by when they are preparing lessons. In order to counter these negative perceptions, library media specialists need to supply educators with the right ingredients for collaboration. These ingredients, combined with the numerous resources in a school library, will assure the most important outcome--student learning success. Eight ingredients for successful collaboration are presented.
