This article talks about the author's experiences as a school librarian in meeting the accelerating demands for student's learning and achievement. School librarianship has definitely changed in the accelerating school universe since the publication of "Information Power: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs" in 1988. That document clearly defined their roles as library media specialists: information specialists, teachers, and "instructional consultants" to their classroom colleagues. Furthermore, the author discusses the role and importance of collaborative practice that starts from the center to effect growth in the entire school universe. Collaboration is all about productive collision courses: the combination of one or more curriculum content areas with information literacy skills; the intersection of two or more great minds, intent on creating and delivering something bigger and better than they might create and deliver alone; and the juncture of educational standards, mandates, and federal requirements with the desire for students to learn, to know, and to achieve.
