Turley, Steve; Powers, Kristin; Nakai, Karen
Action in Teacher Education, v28 n1 p27-39 Spr 2006
Levels of confidence of novice teachers were investigated pre- and post-induction program. In sum, 119 beginning teachers completed a New Teacher Confidence Survey on 28 teaching performance behaviors. There was a statistically significant confidence gain from pre- to postinduction on 20 of 28 teaching behaviors. Statistically significant gains were also shown on six scales developed from the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. New teachers reported mentoring, networking, structured program activities, and opportunities for reflection as valuable induction-program features. (Contains 5 tables.)
