The Looping Classroom: Benefits for Children, Families, and Teachers
Hitz, Mary M.; Somers, Mary Catherine; Jenlink, Christee L.
Young Children, v62 n2 p80-84 Mar 2007
Looping--which is sometimes called multiyear teaching or multiyear placement--occurs when a teacher is promoted with her students to the next grade level with the same group of children for two or three years. What results is a continuity of relationship with their teacher that enables children to flourish. In this article, the authors discuss the looping classroom, its origins, and its benefits for children, families, and teachers. While the advantages of a looping classroom are many, some concerns do arise. Here, the authors also discuss some concerns that arise in looping.
