Toward Realizing the Influence of "Toward Realization of the Least Restrictive Educational Environments for Severely Handicapped Students"
Falvey, Mary A.
Research and Practice for Persons with Severe Disabilities (RPSD), v29 n1 p9-10 Spr 2004
In this article, the author comments on the paramount article "Toward Realization of the Least Restrictive Educational Environments for Severely Handicapped Students" by Brown, Wilcox, Sontag, Vincent, Dodd, and Gruenewald. She states that the article contained amazingly persuasive and logical ideas that guided the dramatic changes in service delivery models for students with severe disabilities over the past 27 years. Brown and his colleagues called for changing the predominant segregated service delivery model to a more integrated one. They also called for a scientific analysis of the longitudinal effects of the integration of students with disabilities into general education settings. In summary, the article, in and of itself, was very important in bringing about the positive and necessary changes in the service delivery models for students with severe disabilities over time.
