Has a Medical Claim for a Special Needs Child Been Rejected? Experts Offer Strategies for Overcoming Rejection

Battling health plans over claims for medical services is frustrating enough when the service at issue is routine and involves a fundamentally healthy individual. But when coverage is denied for a child with special needs, the struggle comes under the general heading of "adding insult to injury." There are many "gray areas" regarding medical coverage for a special needs child, and, given the extremely high cost of many medical services and products, parents of children with disabilities generally have to explore those gray areas to find opportunities for reimbursement. This article provides information on several sources that parents of children with special needs can turn to for the expertise they may need to help with disputes involving denied medical claims.
