An IT Mentoring Program
Cruse, Michael
Techniques: Connecting Education and Careers, v81 n6 p22-23 Sep 2006
In this article, the author features the IT Mentor Program at the Carlos Rosario International Career Center in Northeast Washington, D.C., which was implemented by the center's workforce director, Claudia Lujan, and under the support and direction of its founder and executive director, Sonia Gutierrez. The program pairs students with mentors to help those students succeed in today's information technology workplace. The mentoring relationship is set up for six months and continues for three months after students graduate from the program. This helps students with the anticipated transition into careers and in learning to put what they have learned in the classroom to use on the job.
