Revving Up with a Technology Tuneup
Waterhouse, Janetta
Computers in Libraries, v24 n8 p10-12, 14-15 Sep 2004
In this article, the author, an information technology librarian at Georgian Court University (GCU), recounts how she accomplished technology tuneup at GCU by looking at the existing systems and matching them up with the library needs to find no-cost solutions. The first and biggest tuneup was to the engine, the Sirsi Unicorn integrated library system, which was the only area where the school spent money. The technology tuneup also extended to several secondary systems that support library functions. Together with network and systems mechanics, she describes how they have started up some new internal and external library services by finding ways to use systems that IT has purchased and maintained.
