The engine of this report is "An Educational Technology and Instructional Communications Technology Survey" that attempts to probe the impact of new technologies on educators in Brunei Darussalam. The overall purpose of the survey and the accompanying report is to conduct a preliminary needs analysis pertinent to the adoption and diffusion of new technology in Brunei. The survey was administered to three classes of students enrolled in education courses at the University of Brunei Darussalam. The general findings from the technology survey are: (1) Every educator has a home computer; (2) Most educators are connected; (3) Internet-time competes with other-computer-time; (4) The length of time Bruneians have been connected to the Internet varies; (5) Time spent on the Internet reduces time spent in personal activities; (6) Using the Internet to find general information and e-mail are the most popular activities; (7) Brunei educators do an average of six different activities on the Internet; (8) Chat rooms are more commonly frequented by younger Internet users; and (9) Younger educators embrace technologies they appear to be more "plugged in" than teachers already in the system.
