Connecting Research to Teaching: Habits in the Classroom
White, Alexander; Van Dyke, Frances
Mathematics Teacher, v100 n4 p270-274 Nov 2006
A research focusing on the ability of the students to learn, the thinking capacity of the teachers and the languages, policy and technologies used in the classroom is conducted in order to understand and overcome the problem of students in learning algebra. The analysis shows that the problem is caused by the use of an instrumental approach because of the time and testing pressures and can be solved by retreating to a relational approach, where the students are properly explained all the basic fundamentals before solving the problems.
