Enhancing Meaning in Mathematics: Drawing on What Students Know about the Physical World
Marrongelle, Karen A.
Mathematics Teacher, v99 n3 p162-169 Oct 2005
NCTM's Principles and Standards for School Mathematics advises that school mathematics experiences at all levels should include opportunities to learn about mathematics by working on problems arising in contexts outside of mathematics. Students should be given the opportunity to learn mathematics by building on their understandings of how the world works as well as on their previous mathematical understandings.
