Picassos of the Animal World
Green, Gaye Leigh
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v105 n8 p36 Apr 2006
This article presents how many animals, like human beings, are also capable of painting, sketching, and displaying remarkable abilities. An example of these kind of animals are the "artists" Koko and Michael, gorillas who have been taught the Gorilla Sign Language or GSL as part of an ongoing project run by the Gorilla Foundation. This article also takes a look at how Asian Elephant Art and Conservation Project (AEACP), an organization that helps to improve the welfare of domesticated elephants, raises funds through donations and the sale of artwork created by elephants that AEACP has trained to paint.
