Running down the Road: A Story of Corporate Sponsorship of the Arts
Lewis, Lillian
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v105 n4 p40 Dec 2005
This article reports how corporations and local businesses can be considered as motivators for the art programs that art teachers create. This industry can provide resources for the implementation of unique artistic endeavors. The art competition sponsored by the Huffines Auto Dealerships to middle and high school students in Denton, Lewisville, and Plano, Texas, titled "Texas Values Visual Arts", is an example of how companies involve themselves in the promotion of art. Winners of the competition would receive $250 savings bonds and have their designs posted on prominent billboards in the communities. Since north Texas' roads and highways are filled with commuters every day, this was an effective venue through which to honor the winners.
