The National Telerehabilitation Service System (NTSS) was created to provide access to quality rehabilitation services by researching new or existing telecommunications (communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice, and video, over long distances) and computing technologies and modifying them to meet the needs of people with disabilities. The NTSS has partnered with the National Consortium of State Operated Comprehensive Rehabilitation Centers (NCSOCRC), which is comprised of nine state-operated rehabilitation centers located throughout the United States, to develop new, innovative, and cost-effective strategies to enhance collaboration among the individual centers. To foster this collaboration, the NTSS has broadcast, via video teleconferencing, educational programs to the NCSOCRC. These programs are conducted by staff from three of the centers, with each program focusing on a specialty of that particular center, such as assistive technology for individuals with visual impairments. In November 2005, the NTSS hosted an Assistive Technology (AT) Exposition. The AT Expo, which coincided with National Assistive Technology Month, was free to the public and geared towards people with disabilities, families and advocates of people with disabilities, physical and occupational therapists, healthcare professionals, businesses, educators, and students.
