Using a Dialogue Journal to Build Responsibility and Self-Reliance: A Case Study
Krebs, Cathryn
RE:view: Rehabilitation Education for Blindness and Visual Impairment, v37 n4 p173-176 Win 2006
Using a dialogue journal during a school year helped a 10th-grade student focus on skills that build responsibility and self-reliance. The Expanded Core Curriculum (Hatlen, 1996) addresses disability specific skills that include compensatory and social interaction skills. Providing instruction in organization, time management, and self-advocacy skills to students who are blind or visually impaired allows them to access the general education curriculum. In this article, the author presents a successful case study of a 10th-grade student that uses a dialogue journal to build responsibility and self-reliance.
