Adult Basic Education: An Interdisciplinary Journal for Adult Literacy Educational Planning, v16 n2 p81-97 Sum 2006
Extensive reading is an approach to teaching reading that has been utilized with English as a Second Language (ESL) learners, but not widely used in the adult literacy classroom. This article investigates whether this approach can be utilized in a classroom for adults who have difficulty with reading. A description of our implementation of extensive reading with adults who read between the third- and fifth-grade levels is provided, along with an analysis of their reading skills before and after instruction. (Contains 3 tables and 1 footnote.)
