Understanding the Study of Religion in Undergraduate Programs of Religious Studies as Religious Education
Bowman, Lorna M. A.
Religious Education, v101 n2 p143-146 Spr 2006
In this paper, the author states that, as a religious educator, she has come to believe that insufficient attention has been given to the formative influence of religious studies as an academic discipline on the faith lives of undergraduates. She describes the activity of faith as that which brings together the interrelated dimensions of human knowing, valuing, committing, and acting in the making and maintaining of human meaning. The author contends that religions educators should better understand how undergraduates are coming to terms with and finding meaning in the world in which they live "through the study of religion in programs of religious studies."
