Teaching Teachers about Learning
Richardson, Joan
Education Digest: Essential Readings Condensed for Quick Review, v70 n3 p49-50 Nov 2004
In order for teachers to understand more about learning (their own learning and that of their students), this article presents eight ideas for teacher professional development. These include doing regular classroom walkthroughs, inviting teachers to keep a journal about their daily work, and enlisting teachers to shadow students in order to gain perspective on how school looks from a student's vantage point among others. Every one of these strategies could be introduced into schools. Each has the power to shift a school's culture so that teachers are more involved in their own learning.
