Kohn, Alfie
Education Digest: Essential Readings Condensed for Quick Review, v70 n1 p14-22 Sep 2004
In this article, the author discusses the No Child Left Behind (NCLB)-required testing and privatization in public education. The author points out that the NCLB is not a step in the right direction. It is a deeply damaging, mostly ill-intentioned law, and no one genuinely committed to improving public schools (or to advancing the interests of those who have suffered from decades of neglect and oppression) would want to have anything to do with it. Among other things, the author discusses some of the educational problems brought about by the NCLB.
