Cinco de Mayo Math
Maida, Paula J.
Teaching Pre K-8, v36 n8 p64-65 May 2006
Integrating mathematics across the curriculum offers students the opportunity to link ideas in a natural, impactive way. In this article, the author shares some interactive math activities that she used in a fourth-grade class on "Cinco de Mayo," a holiday honoring Mexican independence. These fun activities not only allowed connections to be made between mathematics and other content areas such as history but also captured students' interest in probability while building understanding and use of terminology through experiments related to the celebration of "Cinco de Mayo."
