Teaching Fitness-Based Content: Knowledge in Physical Education
Martin, Matt; Sharpe, Tom
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v18 n3 p17-19 Jan-Feb 2005
Teaching students about the physiological benefits of regular exercise is an important, though often challenging, aspect of the K-12 physical education curriculum. Due to a variety of class schedules and physical space restrictions, some physical educators may have difficulty integrating fitness and wellness concepts into their daily lessons. Additionally, physical educators may not always be familiar with resources that are available or that they can rely on. This article describes several instructional practices and available resources on health-related topics that can be useful for promoting fitness awareness among students. (Contains 2 tables and 8 resources.)
