The Truth and the Truthful Sages that Spin It: A Review of Dorans
Freedle, Roy O.
Harvard Educational Review, v74 n1 p73-79 Spr 2004
I see much to be pleased with in Dorans' interesting response to my article, "Correcting the SAT's Ethnic and Social-Class Bias: A Method for Reestimating SAT Scores." However, I need to deal with several unstated assumptions and errors that underlie his presentation. In the process of enumerating his covert assumptions, I will take up several criticisms raised in Dorans' response. The most important points I will discuss are as follows: 1) Dorans' Positive Results; 2) Let's Not Learn from the Past; Let's Ignore It; 3) The Critical Topic of How "Chance" Operates in Test Behavior; 4) The Need to Study Individual R-SAT Scores; and 5) The Pervasive Presence of Ethnic Bias for Other Standardized Tests.
