Building Community Support for Parent Education
Smith, Charles A.; Chandler, Lori
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v96 n4 p61 2004
Extension educators have used a variety of instructional methods to deliver parent education. In 2001, Shawnee County (Kansas) Extension began the process of developing community support for parent education. Staff members of local social service agencies were recruited and trained in the use of a new resource, "Basic Parenting". This resource, developed as a comprehensive approach to parent education, provides a wealth of leader resources and many options for presenting the information. Training agency staff members offered these benefits: (a) Extended the reach of Extension's resources far beyond what Extension could do alone; (b) Effective use of Extension staff's time and resources; and (c) Broadened the resources of social service agencies.
