Critical Science: What It Could Offer All Family and Consumer Sciences Professionals
Vincenti, Virginia; Smith, Frances
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v96 n1 p63-70 2004
This article provides an overview of critical science (a practical application of critical theory), a review of the discipline of family and consumer sciences, and examples of what integration of critical science into the discipline would mean for professional practice in any specialization. When addressing practical perennial problems, a critical science perspective includes knowledge focused on human interests, communicative theory grounded in dialog, and actions based on moral consciousness. Examples of critical science enhancing practice in the field are given in relation to education and research. (Contains 1 footnote.)
