Advocacy: Part of the Staff Development Process?
McAnear, Anita
Learning & Leading with Technology, v33 n5 p4 Feb 2006
During her years at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the author has read many articles and attended many conference sessions about wonderful technology projects that have made a difference for students and teachers. With funds already tight, schools and districts need to think about advocating for increased funding in general and for their technology needs in particular. In this article, the author suggests ways schools and districts can become better advocates for increased or even adequate funding. She concludes that district or school staff development programs (with a focus on learning how to be an advocate and developing the stories, facts, and data to support advocacy efforts) may be the venue for developing one's message to secure district, state, federal, or grant funding.
