Ask a Teacher-Librarian!
Coatney, Sharon
Teacher Librarian, v33 n2 p59 Dec 2005
Teacher-librarians need to convey the message to students that they are willing to help them find what they need in the library. However, teacher-librarians also need to teach them how to help themselves. In this article, the author asserts that is is inappropriate for teacher-librarians to teach to students that they cannot find information for themselves by giving them what they need instead of showing them how to find and use it. The arrangement of materials, the navigation of the free Web and proprietary databases, and the summarizing and citation of information are all things that can be learned, transferred, and applied to the next information inquiry.
