Moo Goo Gai Pan or Shrimp Dumpling? Spicing up Your Classroom's Menu
Bigelow, Terry Patrick; Vokoun, Michael J.
English Journal, v94 n6 p96 Jul 2005
This column shares innovative lesson ideas grounded in current literature or action research. Two books are discussed: Lesley Atwater Kahle's book "Cut Word Story," which allows students to become individually engrossed in words and grammar within stories that they create; and Anete Vasquez's "Literary Analysis 101", which gives teachers a simple, successful way to demonstrate to students how to find literary elements and write about their effect on meaning, a practice that complements a reader-response approach.
