This brief article begins by listing the contributions of the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) profession during the 20th century: (a) healthier population and longer life expectancy; (b) safer, more effective work patterns and use of time; (c) credible information for functional consumer and family decisions; (d) use of new technologies and energy resources; and (e) delivery of services to diverse populations. Also listed are the profession's challenges for the future, and suggested proposals to meet these challenges.
