Professionalism in the New World Order
McGregor, Sue L.T.
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v97 n3 p12-14 Sep 2005
Being a Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) professional in today's multiple environments is a challenge, mainly because the environments are always changing. The familial, social, economic, political, cultural, legal, ecological, and technological environments are continually in flux. The feature that is shaping all of these environs--both from the top down and the bottom up--is globalization. This article discusses the key features for FCS professionalism in the new world order, and concludes that a "professional style," means that one is: ethical (honor and integrity), responsible and accountable, theoretical, intellectual (reflective), committed, leading, compassionate/caring, respectful, and altruistic
