Libraries are all about facilitating the intersection of people and information. According to this author, many librarians, however, still teach information literacy in the same way that their older colleagues taught bibliographic instruction. Teaching, despite technology and educational research, has still focused on the lecture. Librarians are just starting to see the first generation of instructional technology tools that are educationally effective, inexpensive, and easy to use. Two of these products discussed in this column are screencasting software and classroom response systems. Screencasting allows librarians to create self-paced, online tutorials that demonstrate a Web page, research database, or desktop application. A classroom response system allows instructors to make direct classroom instruction interactive.
