The Digitizing Project that Made SODA
Rible, Jim
Computers in Libraries, v25 n4 p16-18, 20-22 Apr 2005
What would a person do if they were suddenly given half a million dollars? The Southern Oregon University Library, after receiving a congressional grant of $470,000, decided to use the money to create the Southern Oregon Digital Archives (SODA). The primary goal for SODA was to have a full-text, completely searchable database of hundreds of documents taken from the library's collection. Other goals were to capture related transient documents the library did not own, to create a digitization infrastructure at Southern Oregon University, and to serve as a model for regional libraries. This article gives details of the year-long project.
