The Conflict Cycle--It's Not Just about the Kids
Shahbazian, Mary; Taglione, Patricia; Paull, Linda Rosenbaum
Reclaiming Children and Youth: The Journal of Strength-based Interventions, v14 n1 p32 Spr 2005
This article applies The Conflict Cycle (Long & Morse, 1996) to adult reactions. It is a starting point for a training and supervision model that focuses on the feelings and reactions that youth with severe emotional and behavioral problems conjure up in the adults who are trying to help them. Counter-Response[SM] Training was developed by the Allendale Association to focus on how staff or adult behaviors contribute to The Conflict Cycle with youth. Counter-Response[SM] Training challenges adults and professionals to closely examine their own behaviors and the feelings that fuel them when working with troubled youth. Discovering the "inside adult" can be an effective tool in the work of discovering the "inside kid."
