Five Great Trips to Explore with Your Child
Robinson, Shelly
Childhood Education, v81 n1 p41 Fall 2004
Children must be involved and interested in order to learn. Children who come to kindergarten with background knowledge gained from enjoyable trips with their parents, when they explored the world around them, are usually more curious about their world and experience more success in school. Good teachers connect new information in their curriculum to information the child already has. The information the child has in his/her schema (the file cabinet in the brain) is prior knowledge or background knowledge. Children with substantial background knowledge usually outperform children with limited background knowledge. This document presents different places that parents should expose their children to, in order to broaden their learning experiences.
