Successful Sight-Reading at Your Next Festival
Newton, Cheryl K.
Teaching Music, v12 n1 p26 Aug 2004
In this article, the author addresses the best ways to be prepared for sight-reading at a festival. The best way to learn how to sight-read is to practice sight-reading consistently throughout the year. In theory, this is a great idea. In practice, it is more difficult due to performance demands and other time constraints on the rehearsal. However, music is distributed, read, and collected throughout the year when trying pieces for various performances. This is the perfect time to establish a procedure for sight-reading. The author also suggests ways to prepare students for sight-reading and provides a list of techniques to use.
