Professional Development
T.H.E. Journal, v31 n12 p20 Jul 2004
This brief article explains that effective professional development: (1) Involves teachers in the planning and selection, but balances the needs of individual educators with the needs of the campus and district; (2) Provides a practical, utilitarian component to all efforts; (3) Links educators to each other to create a larger learning community; (4) Offers ongoing support; and (5) Provides opportunity for experimentation and reflection. The article also states that technology affects professional development in a positive way and school districts need to pay more attention to investing in the people who will be using and managing the technology in schools.
