Environmental Design: Focusing on Human Factors.
Rydeen, James E.
American School & University, v75 n12 p158-61 Aug 2003
In designing schools, planners must use the criteria of health and safety, performance, comfort, and aesthetics to create a humanized physical environment that stimulates interest and provides motivation for learning and teaching. The human factors in design are sense of place, ownership, community, presence comfort, security, aesthetics, performance, and privacy. Students must feel valued to stimulate performance. This occurs through psychological and physiological humanizing of spatial design elements. (SM)
