The Adjustment of Australian Children Growing Up in Single-Parent Families as Measured by Their Competence and Self-Esteem.
Pike, Lisbeth T.
Childhood: A Global Journal of Child Research, v10 n2 p181-200 May 2003
Compared the competence and self-esteem of 136 Australian primary school-aged children from different single-parent residency arrangements to those of a matched sample of two-parent children. Found that overall, single-parent children were not significantly different from two-parent children in competence levels and self-esteem. Found subtle differences in performance on the measures between and within each parent residency group linked to child gender and gender of the residential parent. (Author/KB)
