Parenting and Family Socialization Strategies and Children's Mental Health: Low-Income, Mexican-American and Euro-American Mothers and Children.
Hill, Nancy E.; Bush, Kevin R.; Roosa, Mark W.
Child Development, v74 n1 p189-204 Jan-Feb 2003
Examined association of family-related factors with children's depression and conduct problems among low-income Mexican American (English- and Spanish-speaking) and European American mothers and children. Found ethnic differences in children's depression, maternal inconsistent discipline, and hostile control. Also found language differences within the Mexican American sample on maternal inconsistent discipline and hostile control. Language preference moderated the relation between maternal acceptance and children's conduct problems. (Author/KB)
