Future Generations: The Implied Importance of the Fantasy World in Development of a Child's Imagination. Opinion, Dialogue, Review.
Machin, David; Davies, Maire Messenger
Childhood: A Global Journal of Child Research, v10 n1 p105-17 Feb 2003
Challenges the notion evident in discourse about children and television that fantasy and make-believe are self-evidently appropriate genres for children and that children are more imaginative than adults. Draws from social psychology and anthropology theories to argue that fantasy and imagination are basic to the way that all humans organize their experiences. Asserts that the association of these concepts with children is a cultural representation that should be challenged. (Author/KB)
