Children's Patterns of Preserving Emotional Security in the Interparental Subsystem.
Davies, Patrick T.; Forman, Evan M.
Child Development, v73 n6 p1880-1903 Nov-Dec 2002
Two studies assessed school-aged children's reactivity to parental conflict simulations and adolescents' reactions to actual marital conflict. Three profiles of reactions were identified: secure children, insecure-preoccupied children, and insecure- dismissing children. Findings in both studies indicated that preoccupied children evidenced the highest levels of internalizing symptoms. In Study 2, dismissing adolescents reported more coping, family, and personality difficulties than did secure adolescents. (Author/KB)
