Facilitating Word Recognition and Spelling Using Word Boxes and Word Sort Phonic Procedures.
Joseph, Laurice M.
School Psychology Review, v31 n1 p122-29 2002
Word boxes and word sorts are two word study phonics approaches that involve teaching phonemic awareness, making letter-sound associations, and teaching spelling through the use of well-established behavioral principles. The current study examines the effectiveness of word boxes and word sorts. Findings revealed that word boxes and word sort phonic procedures increased students' word identification and spelling skills. (Contains 30 references.) (GCP)
