Schools, Social Capital and Children of Color.
Arriaza, Gilberto
Race, Ethnicity and Education, v6 n1 p71-94 Mar 2003
Studied the role of social networks and protective agents in developing social capital among children of color, examining how children wrote a narrative of resistance within contradictory cultural norms. Investigated social dynamics behind discipline statistics provided by referrals issued to middle school students when expelled from class and sent to the counselor. The adult-child social conflict paradigm was characterized by a discipline culture targeting children of color. (SM)
