Latino Cultural Differences in Maternal Assessments of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Symptoms in Children.
Schmitz, Mark F.; Velez, Maricruz
Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, v25 n1 p110-22 Feb 2003
Cultural differences in maternal evaluations of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) related child behaviors were studied among 320 Mexican, Mexican American, and Puerto Rican mothers. Mothers from different Latino cultures assessed ADHD symptoms differently. Acculturation played a role in perceptions of ADHD-related behaviors in hyperactivity measures, but not in attention deficit aspects. (Contains 44 references.) (TD)
