Phonemic Awareness in Perspective.
Chapman, Marilyn
Canadian Children, v27 n2 p18-25 Fall 2002
Addresses the central issues related to phonemic awareness as a way to articulate the relationship between phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, meta-linguistic awareness, and overall literacy development. Presents key research findings and discusses developmentally appropriate practices for kindergarten and primary education, intervention strategies, and the use of appropriate resources in supporting children's phonemic awareness. Asserts that many child-centered, language-based strategies will support phonemic awareness in most children. (Author)
