Anger, Fear, Uncertainty, and Attitudes: A Test of the Cognitive-Functional Model.
Nabi, Robin L.
Communication Monographs, v69 n3 p204-16 Sep 2002
Explains that the cognitive-functional model of discrete negative emotions and attitude change attempts to bridge the theoretical gap between "emotional" and "rational" approaches to persuasion by focusing on how emotions motivate attention to and processing of persuasive messages. Explores the effects two emotions, anger and fear, and two levels of expectation of message reassurance, certainty and uncertainty, on attitudes toward domestic terrorism legislation among a group of undergraduate students.
