This article aims to encourage dialogue about the shift from traditional to contemporary mentoring and to ask what can be learned from inquiry into optimal mentor relationships and how we might utilize these findings within more formal mentoring schemes. It discusses current government initiatives, and makes recommendations and suggestions for setting up mentor programs for young people. (Contains 38 references.) (GCP)
